This is for my anon I pleasantly talked to on my Romeo and Juliet post. It occurred to me that after responding, people might think I’m talking out of my ass if I continue to not deliver sources for my information. Life lesson right? Anyway the article is fantastic. Shakespeare seems to have enjoyed this complication, as he makes the boy playing Rosalind in As You Like It assume disguise as the boy Ganymede while with her lover Orlando; but then Shakespeare encourages Ganymede to pretend that while still dressed as a boy ‘he’ is impersonating Rosalind.
